Have up to €25k to spend on a bigger car...

Hi Shane, I am looking to trade in an old VW Polo 2007 as need a bigger car (2 young kids, 21/2 and 4) with possibility of having an adult between the kids in the back, on occasion. Have 20-25k to spend + whatever we get for the VW Polo. Drive about 10-12k per year. Wife and self both used to driving smaller cars so nothing too big. Tks JOhn

Our answer:

Hi John,

It depends on what you fancy. If you're good with MPVs then this is easy - a Volkswagen Golf SV (if you can get by with five seats) or a Touran (if you decide you need seven seats) would be ideal, as would any of the other mid-size MPVs such as the new Renault Scenic, Citroen C4 Picasso or Opel Zafira Tourer.

If you don't like MPVs then it's a bit trickier, especially as you want that back seat to be big enough to take three people. Would a Honda CR-V be too big for you? The 1.6 i-DTEC diesel version is really economical and there's plenty space in the back. A good second hand one should be within your budget.
