Altogether now - Let It Goooo...

Dads end up getting hooked on kids' music, according to Skoda study.

Driving dads - you might pretend you've got really cool taste in music, especially when you're driving alone in your car, but the reality is far different. In fact, you're more likely to be singing along to Frozen than any sort of classic rock or indie greats.

That's because, in order to keep the kids in the back quiet, dads are prepared to let the children have their choice of tunes when everyone is travelling as a family.

The net result, according to the Skoda-led poll, is that 31 per cent of dads can now sing along to all the words of Pharrell Williams' 'Happy', 22 per cent know the lyrics to 'Poker Face' by Lada Gaga and 19 per cent have had smash hit 'Let It Go' from Disney juggernaut Frozen drummed into them.

It gets even worse - 12 per cent of fathers know the tune to 'What Makes You Beautiful' by One Direction.

More than half cited Let It Go as their top choice among their children's song libraries, while three in four sing along with their children in the car - and nearly one in five listen to their kids' sounds even when driving solo. Sheesh.

This even afflicts celebrity dads, like Dom Joly - the man behind Trigger Happy TV - who said: "Family car journeys can be hell... unless you're prepared. One brilliant way of minimising the constant refrains of 'are we there yet?' or 'Daaaaad, I'm bored' from the back seat is to enjoy a bit of family 'car-aoke'. Sadly, to get my kids involved, I have to forgo my immaculate indie taste and go a bit mainstream. So I've developed a bit of a thing for Pharrell and Lady Gaga and enjoy a carful of singing, happy children."

Mind you, there is a small bonus to all this. The Skoda survey showed that 63 per cent of kids thought their dads were funny, rather than embarrassing, for learning the words to classics. So let's try and re-educate the youth with some of the great songs from our time, eh? Like... like... er... 'Achy Breaky Heart', by Billy Ray Cyrus. Sigh...
