How much tax will I pay on a vw amarok 2litre diesel.engine?
Hi Clinton,
Depends on how you intend to register it. If you’re going to use it as a commercial vehicle (CV), then the tax rate goes on the vehicle’s ultimate ‘gross vehicle weight’ which, in the Amarok 2.0 TDI’s case (either output, as it came with 140- or 180hp), is 2,820kg. That means you’ll pay a flat €333 per year, as it’s less than three tonnes. If you register it as a private vehicle, though, it goes on CO2 emissions and 2.0-litre diesel Amaroks put out anything between 185- and 224g/km; that places them in Band E, at €750, or – for any model with 191g/km or more of CO2 (all the 180hp models fall into this, as do some 160hp versions depending on their wheel size and specification) – Band F, which means €1,200 per annum.
A word of warning, though; if you’re looking at the above and thinking you can register the Amarok as a CV, to pay €333 per annum, but then use it for occasional private use as well, you can be fined for that. These strictly commercial tax rates do not cover a vehicle for any social, domestic or pleasure use whatsoever, so if you happen to be caught, you can be issued with penalty points, a fine of up to €4,000 and even a court summons.
