How much would it cost to bring a 2013 nissan pathfinder from scotland to dublin in import taxs and road tax
Hi Iain,
Assuming you don't qualify for Transfer of Residence status, which is for people moving from outside Ireland permanently into the state, then the following applies.
As a commercial vehicle, VRT will be charged at 13.3 per cent of the so-called Open Market Selling Price (OMSP). This is the value Revenue places on the vehicle following registration in Ireland and it can be tricky to estimate. For the sake of our calculation, let's say it's in the region of €10,000, but do your own research so you are comfortable with what it may be valued at.
At an OMSP of €10,000, the VRT would be €1,330.
Unfortunately, as the truck is coming from Scotland, you will be liable for VAT and import duty as well. VAT is 23 per cent of the sum of the actual purchase price (not the OMSP mentioned above), the import duty and the transport costs.
Import duty is 10 per cent of the "customs value", which is the sum of the purchase price, transport costs and insurance if any.
In terms of motor tax, if the truck is being used solely for commercial reasons, commercial motor tax is €333 a year. For private use, the rate goes by the engine size, so if you're looking at the 2.5-litre diesel engine, then annual motor tax would be €1,080.
