Do I pay VAT etc on this import from the north?

Hi, The car I am looking to buy was originally purchased in GB in 2017. It was subsequently brought to Northern Ireland and sold there on the 5th of Feb 2020. It has remained in Northern Ireland since. I’m wondering if I need to pay VAT and import duty alongside VRT when I import from NI to the Republic of Ireland?

Our answer:

Hi Andrew,

So long as you can prove that timeline to Revenue then you should not have to pay VAT and import duty.
