Well, it’s impossible for us to say which individual car would be better value for money, given that we’ve seen neither car up close and personal, but there don’t appear to be any major reported issues with the MkV or MkVI Golf TDI, aside from the recall for 'Dieselgate' emissions. As long as you buy the one that’s in better condition and has a full and properly stamped up service history, you should be fine.
