What is it?
Obviously an Audi A6, as Audi’s design department were not too taxed when asked to facelift it in 2014. Slightly reshaped bumpers, grille and new headlight technology - as well as some hardware improvements under the bonnet and software revisions inside - improved the already appealing package. It’s not as interesting to drive as a BMW 5 Series, but then that’s arguably a good thing. The A6 excels at doing its own thing, which is looking great, offering lots of space and luxury and impressive economy.
What is it like?
Thanks to our over-zealous tax collectors, all but a handful of A6s here will be 2.0-litre TDI models. It’s no poor choice though, offered in 150- or 190hp states of tune. Taking the more powerful version sees no penalty in fuel consumption or emissions - which are an impressive 4.4 litres/100km and 114g/km respectively - and less if you choose the S tronic automatic. Do that, as it builds on the A6’s core appeal of being an easy-going, comfortable car to drive. Quick too, despite those tax-friendly emissions.

The Audi A6 sits alongside the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class in vying for buyers’ attention. The 5’s a sharper drive, but with a bit of an image problem for some, while the new E-Class is certain to be a tough rival thanks to its technology offering. The A6 sits somewhere in the middle, being beautifully executed inside and out, and at its entry-point still able to feel like very much the executive it is. S line trim looks sharp, though any version is well equipped.
