Suzuki's new baby

Goodbye Alto - hello Celerio. Suzuki has announced the European specification of its new Celerio.

What's the news?
Goodbye Alto - hello Celerio. Suzuki has announced the European specification of its new Celerio, which will be coming to Europe in left-hand drive in late 2014. At 3,600mm in length and 1,600mm wide, Suzuki says the compact city car is bigger than class rivals such as the Hyundai i10. Power is from a tiny 998cc three-cylinder petrol engine with 67hp and 0-100km/h in an estimated 15 seconds. Not much to get excited about, there. But it's the emissions of 85g/km that's caught our eye. The Celeraio uses a dual injection system and stop-start.

The first cars are likely to be manufactured in left-hand drive in late 2014, with right-hand drive versions arriving later. The Celerio will be offered with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. It's suggested that the Celerio will be made in India for some markets, while European spec cars will be made elsewhere. The location of which is still to be revealed by Suzuki.

Anything else?
Last year Suzuki sold 2.69 million cars worldwide. In Europe, it shifted 197,000 units, helped no doubt by the market introduction of the SX4 S-Cross, last September. Suzuki also reports a healthy 12 per cent growth year-on-year.
