Senna's ghost haunts Suzuka

Honda pays homage to brilliant Brazilian with lights and audio show.

Nearly 20 years have passed since Ayrton Senna went to the great race track in the sky but such is the appeal of possibly the most talented driver ever to grace F1, his legend lives on.

How many other drivers would inspire Honda to take over a race track, line it with LED lights and thousands of speakers to recreate a qualifying lap?

Using telemetry data from Senna's 1989 McLaren MP4/5, the Japanese manufacturer (who provided the 3.5-litre V10 engine for the championship winning car) was able to virtually recreate the qualifying lap that would set up one of the Brazilian's most famous races that saw him collide with team mate Alain Prost, lose his nosecone, drive like a man possessed to take victory only to be disqualified after the race, handing the championship to Prost.

But back to the video...

With night fallen the Honda engineers fire the light and sound show, bringing Senna's lap back to life. Whether you love F1 or simply the sound of a free-revving V10, crank the volume up to 11, sit back and enjoy.
