New Fiat van

Fiat has launched the new Talento van

Slotting into the competitive medium van segment, the Talento will be available in both short and long wheelbase formats, with numerous body styles including standard and high-roof panel vans, people carrier and crew cab available.

The neat 'CargoPlus' storage area under the passenger seats means objects up to 3.75m long (4.15m in the long-wheelbase version) can be carried, and couriers will be glad to know that there's space for three Euro pallets.

Wide-opening rear doors and the large side door reveal a load volume of 5.2 cubic metres in the short-wheelbase model, stretching to 8.6 cubic metres for the high-roof long-wheelbase version, and up to 1,249kg can be carried depending on the variant with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,060kg.

A quad of 1.6-litre MultiJet turbodiesels take care of propulsion in 95hp, 120hp, 125hp and 145hp formats. The latter two engines utilise two sequentially-operating turbos with one taking care of torque low down in the rev range, while the other functions at higher engine speeds to give a broader powerband. All are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and up to 47.9mpg can be achieved on the 125hp version with CO2 emissions of 155g/km.

Equipment-wise, ABS, EBD and ESC with hill start function are standard, while the Trailer Stability Assist and a reversing camera and front parking assist system are on the options list. There are three trim levels available, topping out with the SX Combi, which features alloy wheels, cruise control, satnav and auto lights and wipers.

Prices start at €18,735 for the 95hp short-wheelbase standard roof van excluding VRT, VAT and delivery charges.
