Lamborghini is apparently toying with the idea of turning its stunning Paris show concept into an exclusive track car.

The 999kg Sesto Elemento made waves in the French capital back in September when Lamborghini introduced it with a manifesto which outlined the manufacturer's new doctrine of lightweight materials and extreme acceleration.

Now the company believes the car may be suitable for a very limited production run - less than 20 examples - which could see it compete with rivals from Ferrari and Pagani as the ultimate track day weapon.

The Sesto Elemento was constructed primarily to demonstrate Lamborghini's new forged carbon material to the world, but company boss, Stephan Winkelmann is keen for the project to yield more than one concept car.

"We are testing the Sesto Elemento at the moment and if it all goes well then we could look at a limited production run," he told Autocar. "But it would not be homologated because there are complications with things like airbags. It would be for track use only.

"We do not want to ever produce and show cars just for a museum," he added.

A production version of the advanced model would likely rival any performance car in the world thanks to its combination of extreme low weight and Superleggera supplied running gear.

The Elemento's 570bhp V10 engine means it is capable of 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds. The Paris show-stopper was rumoured to be capable of a sub 10 second quarter mile.

Expect the price tag for a production version of the car to exceed €1m.
