Ford refreshes the Fiesta

Set to receive its public debut at the Paris Motor Show the new Fiesta gains the latest corporate look, new technology and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.

What's the news?
Ford has unveiled a freshly facelifted Fiesta at a dealer conference held at its Amsterdam headquarters. Set to receive its public debut at the Paris Motor Show the new car gains the latest corporate look, new technology and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.

Exterior
The Fiesta is the latest member of Ford's 'global' range of cars and so wears the quasi-Aston Martin front end of the current Focus and upcoming Mondeo. Gone is the cute supermini of old to be replaced with an edgier, more purposeful looking car. The laser-cut headlights that sit either side of a trapezoidal grille feature LED daytime running lights.

Interior
Much of the news about the cabin relates to the technology that Ford will bring to the segment in the 2013 Fiesta. Ford SYNC will allow drivers to connect phones and media players via Bluetooth with controls coming via voice-control technology. The system also includes Emergency Assistance that will automatically call emergency services if the car is involved in an accident.

MyKey makes its European debut in the Fiesta. This system allows parents to set parameters for speed, music audio etc. before handing the keys over to their children. Active City Stop, the system designed to prevent low speed collisions, will also be present.

Mechanicals
As expected the new Fiesta will gain the three-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that has been wowing audiences in the Focus. No word yet if it will be fitted with both 100- and 125hp versions of the engine.

Anything else?
Ford will reveal more details about the new European Fiesta range at the Paris Motor Show.
