What's the news?
Jaguar has revealed that its new compact saloon will be called the XE. The announcement came at the Geneva Motor Show last week along with a video teaser of the car that will do battle with the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 when it arrives in 2015.

The name was officially announced by Jaguar Land Rover boss Dr Ralf Speth who had this to say about the new car:

"We announced just a few weeks ago that our new Engine Manufacturing Centre would produce a new family of premium, lightweight, low-friction, low emission four-cylinder petrol and diesel units."

"The first of our Ingenium engine range will be used in our all-new mid-sized Jaguar sports sedan. That car will be called the Jaguar XE, and it will be unveiled in production form later this year."

Anything else?
In addition to the new range of engines the XE will also use Jaguar's new aluminium monocoque iQ[Al]platform, which was first seen on the C-X17 SUV prototype. Modular and scalable in its design the new platform is set to be used across a range of Jaguar products bringing lightness and stiffness for (Jaguar claims) unbeatable handling, performance, refinement and efficiency.
