See all Motoring NewsBMW Ireland has announced details of the new 5 Series Saloon and Touring LCI which is to be launched in July 2020. The updated 5 Series models will feature a host of changes including a refreshed exterior design, increased refinement, mild-hybrid technology, new larger touch screen infotainment and various other improvements.
The new 5 Series will feature various styling changes including a wider and taller Kidney Grille up front, new LED headlights, reshaped rear lights and new trapezoidal exhaust tailpipe finishers among various other incremental changes. The 5 Series will be available with new exterior colours, new light alloy wheels from 18- to 20-inches in size, long with optional M Sport brakes with brake callipers painted in blue or red.
Inside, the 5 Series now features a 10.25-inch Control Display as standard, with a new optional 12.3-inch Control Display also available. Other changes include automatic climate control with revised controls, sports leather steering wheel and new M multifunction seats with new interior trim strips.
BMW will launch the new 5 Series with a more comprehensive plug-in hybrid range, increasing to five different models and with the 5 Series Touring for the first time. The plug-in hybrid range will now include the 530e Touring and 530e xDrive Touring, while all of the plug-in hybrid models will include a new eDrive Zone function as standard, which automatically switches the car to all-electric mode when entering green zones.
The new 5 Series will feature 48 volt mild hybrid technology for all four and six cylinder engines for the first time, which BMW claims will boost power and economy. All diesel models will now feature two-stage turbocharging, while there is also a new optional Integral Active Steering system for assistance in low-speed manoeuvres.
The new model will also include various new driver assistance systems, including Lane Departure Warning, which is part of the optional Driving Assistant, with a new lane return function, and other optional systems to include Lane Change Assistant and junction warning.
The 5 Series will also feature BMW’s new Operating System 7 for increased connectivity and personalisation. The new model also sees the launch of BMW Maps, a new cloud-based navigation system that offers fast and precise calculation of routes and arrival times. Standard smartphone integration now also includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless WiFi connectivity and optional Head-Up Display.
