Lexus Ireland has now opened the order books for its new IS 300h model; priced from €37,780. The third generation of the IS features a fresh look both outside and inside and is coupled with a new power unit under the bonnet.
Exterior
The design for the latest IS 300h brings the model in line with the rest of the range. Up front is the brand's signature spindle grille, which, when combined with the car's flared wheel arches, should make it look fairly imposing when in someone's rear view mirror. Both the profile and the rear of the car mimic that of the rest of the IS range.
Five trim levels can be had from launch, comprised of Eco, S-Design, Executive, F Sport and Premium. Each level of trim comes with alloy wheels as standard and a total of 10 exterior colours can be specified.
Interior
The new cabin design is said to have been inspired by the (insanely-priced and insanely-capable) LFA - particularly the three-spoke steering wheel, complete with paddle shifters. All versions come with Lexus Media Display systems, featuring a host of connectivity options as well as a top-end sound system. iPod and iTunes functionality are also part of the package; all of which can be controlled via the steering wheel. Black, Light Grey and Ivory colour schemes can be had throughout the range to personalise the cabin; while F Sport customers gain exclusive access to the Dark Rose finish.
Mechanicals
Under the bonnet sits a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 181hp. The new engine features dual VVT-i, a next generation D-4S fuel injection system and exhaust gas recirculation. This is then attached to a 143hp electric motor to give a 0-100km/h time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of more than 200km/h. Lexus also claims that, if driven sensibly, the same unit will sip fuel at 4.3 litres/100km and emit just 99g/km of CO2.
Drivers can also choose from Eco, Snow, Normal, Sport/Sport S and Sport S+ on Lexus' new Drive Mode Select; each of which alters the ride, responsiveness and economy accordingly.
Anything else?
The entry-level Lexus IS 300h Eco comes to market at €37,780 with prices rising through the range to the top-spec Premium model at €46,780. In addition, the IS 300h can also be had with the Lexus Connect PCP scheme for €395 per month.
