Hi Jacqueline,
As with all cars, used or new, you can never legislate for precisely how reliable one model is going to be – but we’ve heard of no major nightmares with the Nissan Qashqai Mk2, beyond some owners experiencing minor electronic niggles and similar. So as long as the vehicle you’re looking at is in good condition and has a well-documented history, it should provide you with a hassle-free ownership experience. The electronic handbrake is something that some people love and others take a little longer getting used to, but it’s designed to be more convenient than a traditional lever. All Qashqais have efficient, turbocharged engines, be they petrol or diesel, but while diesel variants are more economical, if you’re not doing more than 20,000km a year, they don’t make a tremendous deal of financial sense – as they’re often more expensive to buy, even used, and it would take you years of motoring to recoup the cost difference between it and an equivalent petrol model. Prices for a 2015 Qashqai, with 160,000km on the clock, start from €15,000 – so depending on the mileage and specification, you’re looking at upwards of this figure as retail value.
