Will a Northern warranty work in the South?

Will a Northern warranty work in the South?

I'm looking to buy a used car from Northern Ireland dealer. If they offer a warranty (not the manufacturers warranty), will it still be honored after you bring it down South???

Our answer:

Hi Frankie,

Probably not, but it does depend on the circumstances. If it’s a relatively new second hand car you’re buying, and still under its original factory warranty, then that warranty will most certainly be honoured, except in some cases where the UK warranty is longer than the European one and backed specifically by the UK importer or manufacturer. Read the fine print to be certain. If it’s an approved used car from a franchised dealer, then in many cases those second hand warranties are also pan-European and should be honoured, but check at the time of purchase to be certain. If it’s a warranty provided by an independent dealer, then no — you’ll have to bring it back to that dealer for any warranty work.
