Which of these three to go for?

Trying to decide between Skoda Superb 150BHP, Ford Focus 180BHP OR Seat Leon 150BHP with a budget of €30,000. I would appreciate any advice. Please help, thanks

Our answer:

Hi John,

OK, three very different cars. The SEAT and the Ford are the closest, conceptually, but quite different in character. The Leon FR 150hp is a terrific all-rounder – fast, frugal, good to drive, practical and well made. The Focus, and I presume it’s the 180hp ST TDCi you’re talking about, is much more aggressively sporting and sharper to drive, but less comfortable and significantly less roomy in the back. Of the two, I’d lean towards the SEAT, but if you really love your driving and you’re not bothered about the space issue, then the Focus ST is a huge amount of fun. If you mean the 150hp Focus ST-Line, then it’s a slightly different balance. Still sharper than the SEAT to drive, but less aggressive and hard-riding than the full-on ST model.

The Superb is the odd one out here – a big (vast, in fact) car that majors on comfort and sheer space, but isn’t any fun to drive. Not bad to drive, but not engaging in the way the other two are. Can I suggest splitting the difference and go for a SEAT Leon FR estate? Sporty and agile, but with a huge boot. Seems like the comfortable middle ground here.
