Very few new cars these days have a full-sized spare wheel as standard – the advent of run-flat tyres, tyre repair kits and spacesaver spare wheels have made for cheaper, preferable alternatives for the car manufacturers. Furthermore, an obvious place for hybrid electric cars to have parts of their electrical systems (batteries and so on) is in or underneath the boot floor – where spare tyres are normally kept. However, spacesaver wheels are a spare wheel that won’t leave you stranded (you have to drive at a lower speed, limited to 80km/h, but they will get you home or to a tyre repair shop), so you should consider a hybrid with one of those fitted. We have two suggestions for you: the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid (NOT the Plug-In Hybrid nor the Electric, both of which have tyre repair kits) has a spacesaver spare; and the Kia Niro, again the mild hybrid model rather than a plug-in, has a full-sized spare. Both should be well within your budget.
