The correct answer is 'according to manufacturer guidelines', which may vary from car to car. However, all the car makers have moved to 'long life' spark plugs in the last decade or two and, while they are designed to last longer than ever, I still feel it's worth changing them earlier than is recommended to ensure that the car is running at its best (and most efficient) at all times.
