We are thinking of buying an Audi A6.

We are thinking of buying a audi a6 is it a good family car and also my wife does alot of motorway traveling is it economical will we get good milage from a full tank? Family of four total.budget is 17,000 euro with a trade in ford mondeo estate 2008

Our answer:

Hi Frank,

Yes, it is a good car, although for family purposes you might find the centre rear seat a bit tight. Overall reliability is good, as long as you make sure you buy with a full service history and preferably get the car inspected beforehand too (they can develop niggling electronic issues that can be expensive to fix). If you go for the 2.0-litre TDI diesel then you should expect to get better than 55mpg on long runs, and long runs are what it was essentially built for so it should be perfect for those motorway journeys. It’s worth tracking down the very handsome Avant estate version, as it is usefully more versatile for family use.
