Is my Santa Fe's oil consumption high?

Is my Santa Fe's oil consumption high?

We have a 142 hyundai Sante Fe. The oil light has come on several times over the past 2 teams years and we have put in 10lts of oil along with whatever the garage has replaced. There is no oil on the drive so it's not a visible leak. The Hyundai garage said that this is within tolerance. Is this the only case of this that you have heard?

Our answer:

Hi Senan,

Yes, it is. To be honest, that does sound a little high in terms of oil consumption, but probably not excessive. Generally, I’d say that if Hyundai say it’s OK then it’s OK, but there are some possible reasons for it. Has the car always been kept serviced on schedule? Is it habitually parked on a sloped driveway (which can cause oil to collect in one part of the sump and give a false reading)? Have you tried changing the oil filter? Is this car used only for short hops at low speeds? All of these things will have an effect.
