Cartell.ie reveals the best selling electric vehicles in Ireland in 2023

The analysis looks at the most popular EV and PHEV models in the Irish market in 2023.

Cartell.ie, experts in vehicle history and data, and car sales platform CarsIreland.ie have jointly released their analysis of the sales of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEVs) in the Irish market for the year-to-date. The report reveals that Hyundai is the top selling brand in the combined EV/PHEV segment, followed by Kia and BMW. In October 2022, Volkswagen was the leader in this segment but it has now slipped to the fourth position overall. The premium brand Tesla did not make it to the top 10 in the year-to-date.

The analysis also looked at the most popular EV and PHEV models in the Irish market in 2023. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 emerged as the top-selling model, followed by Kia Niro and the Hyundai KONA. The IONIQ 5 made a big impression on buyers in the year-to-date. When it comes to imported EVs and PHEVs, BMW leads the way with the 530e being the most popular imported model in the combined segment.

Finally, the report analyzed the overall picture of the live fleet in the combined EV/PHEV segment to see which models are the all-time most popular. The Nissan Leaf emerged as the most popular vehicle on Irish roads in this segment. Overall, the analysis reveals that Hyundai has made significant strides in the Irish EV/PHEV market and its models are among the most popular. However, the competition in this segment is fierce, and the market dynamics may change as the year progresses. The report provides useful insights into the Irish EV/PHEV market and can help buyers and industry players make informed decisions.

Commenting on the research, Ross Conlon, CEO CarsIreland.ie and Group Director New Business at Mediahuis Ireland said “The IONIQ 5 is comfortably the most popular car in this combined EV/PHEV segment replacing the Volkswagen ID 4 as the most popular model with Plug-In electric capacity, when the market is viewed over the first few weeks of this year. Still though, in terms of the overall numbers in the fleet, the most popular model in this combined segment is the Nissan Leaf which proved to be hugely popular with buyers. Interestingly, when we look at the imported market for the same segment BMW are leading the way with both the 530e and 330e by far the most popular imported models and BMW also lead the way overall in terms of the numbers of its vehicles in this combined segment in the live fleet.”
