The iPhone's Latest Update May Actually Save Your Life

Apple's 'Do Not Disturb While Driving' feature prevents people from receiving messages and calls whilst driving.

What is it?

Apple have just launched its new operating system iOS 11. Among many of its exciting new features is one that might just save your life. The ‘Do Not Disturb While Driving’ mode for the iPhone. This revolutionary new feature not only prevents you from receiving messages and calls whilst driving, but it also lets the caller/texter know that you are driving and will see their message when you arrive at your destination.

Authorities and road safety advocates welcome Apple’s new feature, experts say the’ Do not Disturb While Driving’ feature could have a huge impact on road safety and help prevent accidents caused by driver’s attention being distracted by their phone’s whilst attempting to focus on the road.

 

How to enable Do Not Disturb While Driving.

You can enable Do Not Disturb While Driving in Settings > Do Not Disturb > Do Not Disturb While Driving > Activate. Here, you will find three activation options:

Automatically: Your iPhone uses information like motion detection and network connections to sense that you might be driving, and turns the feature on.

When Connected to Car Bluetooth: Do Not Disturb while driving starts when your phone connects to your car's hands-free system.

Manually: Swipe up to access the Control Center to turn on Do Not Disturb while driving before you begin.

 

Customize who receives Auto Replies

The ‘Auto-Reply To’ feature allows you to choose who receives an auto-reply message informing them that you cannot answer as you are driving and will see their message when you arrive at your destination.

You can also customize the actual message your Auto-Reply contacts receive i.e “Im Driving to work, I will call you back as soon as I arrive at the office”

If someone still needs to contact you, they can break through Do Not Disturb by sending "urgent" as an additional message.

How to turn it off.

When you wake up the phone it will display the Do Not Disturb While Driving notification. Swiping or pressing on the notification will allow prompted the ‘I’m Not Driving’ Button if you need to turn it off once.

To stop it turning on altogether, you can change the feature in Settings > Do Not Disturb. Here you can pick the app to turn on Manually, thereby turning any automatic activation off.
