Skoda Ireland on hunt for high mileage cars

What's new?
Do you have a Skoda with more than 200,000km on the clock? If you do, Skoda Ireland has a prize for you as part of a competition to see if its own high miler can be beaten.

The car is question is a 2002 Octavia Ambiente, which currently has 825,179km on the clock (or 512,743 miles in old money) that is now part of the Skoda Ireland press fleet. The 1.9-litre TDI 90hp model was taken in by Skoda when its former owner looked to part company with it. The car was given a service, a fine tune, a full valet and now acts as the senior member of the press fleet.

So to see if its car is the highest mileage Skoda the firm has launched a Facebook completion whereby owners can upload photos of their car to facebook.com/SkodaIreland and be in with a chance of a prize. All pictures submitted with over 124,000 miles / 200,000km will receive a specially commissioned Skoda High Mile Club t-shirt and the overall winner will be rewarded with a travel prize. There are a few provisos including the fact that each car must be taxed, insured, have an NCT cert and otherwise be road legal. Photos of the odometer and the car itself are also required.

Anything else?
Speaking at the launch, Raymond Leddy, Head of Marketing & Product, Skoda Ireland, said: "This competition was inspired by the 2002 Octavia that had over 500,000 miles on it when it came to our attention and since that, many more people have been sending in pictures of their high mileage. We see this as a testament to the reliability and longevity of Skoda vehicles . It's a bit of fun and we want to encourage Skoda drivers to get involved."
