New Citroen C4 priced up

Lest you forget there's a normal hatch in the Citroen range, the company has updated its C4 model.

What's new?

With the C4 Cactus just losing out to the Volkswagen Passat in the European Car of the Year bunfight, and the C4 Picasso carving out its niche as the family people carrier of choice, it's easy to forget that there is actually a 'vanilla' C4 hatchback, the plain favour model to the Cactus' Phish Food and the Picasso's Chunky Monkey (© Ben & Jerry's).

Outside

Well, Citroen's not going to let us forget as it's giving the C4 a major mid-life update. It gets new lights, a revised interior and more frugal engines.

Outside, there are new 3D-effect lights front and rear with LED signatures, while the double-chevron grille is subtly different too. There are two new colours, both of which, sadly, are grey.

Inside

Inside, material quality has been improved and there's a new seven-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, which includes all the usual smartphone refinements and app capability. There are some new trim choices and the seats can be optionally fitted with a massage function. Nice on a long journey, that... There is also some updated acoustic insulation to try to keep the interior as quiet as possible.

You can also spec the C4 with keyless entry and ignition, 'intelligent traction control' and an ultrasonic blind spot monitor.

Under the bonnet

On the engine front, you can now have the C4 with the new PureTech 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol with 110hp. Citroen quotes 60mpg and 110g/km of CO2 for that one. The diesel engines are also being upgraded to the new BlueHDI units. They're both 1.6-litre engines, in 100- and 120hp Stop/Start forms. The more powerful engine has official figures of 78mpg and 95g/km of CO2, although you have to make sure it's specced with low-rolling-resistance tyres for those numbers.

Pricing

The most basic Touch-spec PureTech petrol comes in at €19,995 (pretty good for an engine with that kind of tech) while the cheapest diesel, the BlueHDI 100hp, has a price tag of €21,045.

You can order your new C4 now, and deliveries will start in April.
