Kia previews all-new Optima

Design sketch previews world debut in New York of all-new Kia Optima saloon.

What's new?

In what must be one of the shortest press releases ever seen in our time, Kia has announced it is bringing the all-new Optima saloon to the New York Show on the 1st of April.

The previous-gen Optima debuted in NY in 2010 and has been the company's best-selling vehicle in the US for three years running, so it's an important car for the Korean firm.

However, beyond telling us it is 'passionately designed and obsessively crafted', we have no more details about the latest Optima as yet, although it is obviously designed to challenge in the D-segment, alongside the Volkswagen Passats and Ford Mondeos of this world. It also shares a platform with the Hyundai i40 and in terms of motive power expect some variation of the 1.7-litre CRDi diesel engine seen in the current model and a mild hybrid, inspired by the Optima T-Hybrid shown in Paris last year.

Is that it?

Aside from this snazzy design sketch, which isour clearest indication yet of what the new Optima will look like, you might wish to check out Kia's Geneva star, the Sportspace concept, as details from that are highly likely to make it into the production car.
