Hot Skoda arrives

This Skoda Octavia RS 245 is open for ordering.

Skoda has officially launched the new 245hp version of that perennial practical performance favourite, the Skoda Octavia RS.

Now using the latest version of the Volkswagen Golf GTI's 2.0-litre turbo engine, the Octavia RS 245 will sprint from standstill to 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds, and has a rated top speed of 250km/h. You can have it as a manual or DSG auto, and Skoda says that it will use 6.4 litres per 100km on the combined cycle. That's a very reasonable 44mpg.

As with the hotter version of the Golf GTI, the Octavia 245 gets the clever electronically controlled VAQ differential between the front wheels, which really improves both cornering traction and steering feel, and is pretty much a must-have if you're serious about your driving.

Equipment includes LED headlights as standard, replacing the previous model's Xenon lights. The styling of the Octavia is further enhanced on the RS 245 with the black radiator grille. The black 19-inch Xtreme alloy wheels and glossy black tailpipes complete the look.

Inside, the sports seats are decorated in Alcantara and there's a Driver Mode Select with Performance Sound Generator function that enables individual adjustment of drive and comfort settings.
