Honda CR-V goes front-drive

What's the news?
Honda has been gearing up to launch the 1.6-litre front drive version of the CR-V for some time now but at last, 'tis upon us.

Well, nearly. Actually, 'twill be upon us on October 21st, priced from €31,995.

Using the 120hp 1.6 i-DTEC engine already seen in the Civic (and an engine we greatly admire in that car) the CR-V scores a very impressive CO2 figure of 119g/km. Now, there are other SUVs in the class that can match that figure but none of them are as big and spacious as the CR-V, so on a Euros-for-CO2-for-metal measure, the new CR-V 1.6 could well claim to be a class leader.

Anything else?
This won't be the last highly efficient Honda to arrive on our shores. There's the hugely spacious Civic estate on the way and Honda is gearing up for a major assault on the European market, where it has traditionally under-performed relative to its sales successes in Japan and the US. It's promising higher quality, more tactile cabins and more and more frugal diesel engines. Oh, and the new NSX supercar and a return to F1 with McLaren, but those last are perhaps another story...
