Elon Musk to build electric submarine from 007's Lotus

Billionaire inventor aims to do what Q branch could not.

You may not have heard of Elon Musk, but you probably should take notice, as he will likely rule the galaxy at some point. Having co-founded and then sold PayPal for $1.5 billion he did what any other recently minted genius would do and set up an electric car company called Tesla, in addition to a space rocket company called Space-X, which counts NASA as one of its largest customers. Yeah, he is the guy that the astronauts go to when they cannot get funding from the US government.

Musk is either a real life incarnation of Tony Stark or the fictional super villain from the Simpsons, Hank Scorpio. We are awaiting confirmation on whether Musk lives in a Cliffside mansion in Malibu or a hollowed out volcano before making the distinction.

While his latest project is not as ambitious as either Tesla or Space-X it is likely the most interesting. Musk was recently revealed as the buyer of the Lotus Esprit submarine that James Bond used in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. The story behind the car getting to auction reads like one of those fanciful 'Auction Hunter' type shows on Discovery but the end result is that Musk spent $860,000 on the car.

Now it emerges that he will fit the Lotus with the powertrain from one of his Tesla cars and make a real life electric submarine. Unlike Bond's car, which was really a modified Esprit for land shots and a scale replica for the under-water stuff, Musk wants his Esprit to be a fully-functioning and fully transforming car-sub.

Has anyone ever seen Elon Musk stroking a white cat before... and lived to tell the tale?
