E-Class Cabriolet on the way

Mercedes-Benz Ireland has confirmed that the E-Class Cabriolet will go on sale in September.

Mercedes-Benz Ireland has confirmed that the E-Class Cabriolet will go on sale in September, completing the 'renewal' of the entire E-Class model range within the space of a year.

Although the exact pricing and specifications have yet to be confirmed, Mercedes-Benz Ireland will at least say that prices will be 'only moderately above' the outgoing model's.

A range of petrol and diesel engines will be offered, all mated to a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission and with 4Matic all-wheel drive an option on some cars. Chief interest here is likely to come from the E 200 petrol, with 184hp from its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and the E 220 d, with 194hp.

LED High Performance headlamps, 15mm lower suspension, alloy wheels ranging from 18 inches in diameter and a fully electric fabric roof (which can open and close in 20 seconds, even when travelling at up to 50km/h, and which comes in four colours - dark brown, dark blue, dark red and black) are all standard kit, while the Aircap and Airscarf systems, and a load of driver assist technologies will be among the equipment optionally offered on the Cabriolet. Boot space stands at 385 litres with the hood up, and 310 litres with it down.
