What's the news?
The tenth and final team that will be entered into the first Formula E championship is a joint venture between Venturi and award-winning actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. Now, whilst Mr DiCaprio isn't the first name you'd associate with a racing team, he is well known for being an environmental activist, making Formula E more than a reasonable investment for the star.

"The future of our planet depends on our ability to embrace fuel-efficient, clean-energy vehicles," DiCaprio said. "Venturi Grand Prix has shown tremendous foresight in their decision to create an environmentally friendly racing team, and I am happy to be a part of this effort."

As well as having the support and resources provided by DiCaprio, Venturi certainly isn't new to the whole 'fast EV' scene. Founder of Venturi Automobiles, Gildo Pallanca Pastor, has seen to it that his company be recognised in the world of all-electric vehicles. In addition to its current range of passenger EVs, Venturi also holds the world record for electric vehicles with its Buckeye Bullet 2.5 that hit terminal velocity at a massive 307mph in 2010. The manufacturer has also built a 3,000hp electric streamliner that's dubbed the 'VBB-3'. Using this vehicle as a starting point, Venturi hopes to build itself up to become a constructor for the second season of Formula E in 2015.

"Venturi has been a pioneer in electric high performance vehicles for more than a decade," comments Gildo. "Formula E gives us the fantastic opportunity to further improve our advanced technologies through motorsport, as well as compete all over the world."

Backing up Leo and Gildo are Francesco Costa and Bert Hedaya, both, according to CEO of Series Promoters for Formula E Holdings, Alejandro Agag, "global entrepreneurs that will bring great experience and energy to the team."

"It's an honour and a pleasure to welcome the Venturi Grand Prix team as the tenth and final team of the FIA Formula E Championship," Agag continues. "Gildo is a true pioneer in electric racing; his passion and vision pushes forward the technology barriers of what can be done with an electric car."

Anything else?
Now, we play the waiting game. As with the other nine teams, Venturi Grand Prix will be put forward to the FIA, joining teams such as Audi Sport ABT, Drayson Racing, Mahindra Racing and the recently announced Virgin Racing team.
