Cartell names most popular car-buying day

For the third year running Tuesday has been revealed as the most popular day of the week for buying and selling cars. The information comes from vehicle history experts Cartell.ie who, having crunched the numbers on new and used cars sales for 2013, found that seven out of ten car sales are concluded on the second day of the week.

While many may choose to visit the showroom over the weekend when they are off work few, if any, sales are actually concluded on a Saturday or Sunday. The popularity of Tuesday for the day paperwork is actually signed and keys collected can be attributed to Monday being spent sorting out finance for the new purchase, either a trip to the bank or credit union.

October was the most popular month for car sales last year with an average of 4,000 transactions every day for the month. The first Tuesday in October was the single biggest day followed by the last Monday in September - the only Monday to feature in the top ten. The popularity of September and October for the sales spike has been attributed to the change in declaring vehicles off-the road with many second hand cars changing hands before the new rules took effect.
