Exterior Design

The Renault Megane E-Tech showcases a captivating exterior design, characterized by slim headlights, striking LED daytime running lights, and a bold front end. The car features 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the mid-range Techno variant boasting impressive 20-inch wheels that exude a concept car presence. Its purposeful look is enhanced by short overhangs and a slightly higher ride height compared to traditional hatchbacks, along with black painted wheel arches. The sleek and sporty appearance is further accentuated by a full-width light bar across the rear of the car, making the Megane E-Tech one of the most stylish electric hatchbacks on the market.

Interior and Practicality

Renault has crafted a classy and sophisticated cabin for the Megane E-Tech, drawing inspiration from the world of fine home furniture. The use of interesting materials, such as tweed-style fabric in the dashboard and seat fabric made from recycled materials, sets it apart from previous Megane models with their hard plastics. The cabin is equipped with abundant digital tech, including a stunning full digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen with an excellent Google operating system. The entry-level Equilibre trim offers features like air conditioning, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, rearview camera, and various safety and driver assistance systems. Practicality-wise, the Megane E-Tech boasts one of the largest boots in its class, measuring 440 liters, and includes a clever compartment under the boot floor for storing charging cables. The car offers adequate legroom for adults, although rear headroom may be slightly limited.

Drive

The Megane E-Tech comes with two battery options: the EV40 with a 40kWh battery providing a range of 300 kilometers (WLTP), and the EV60 with a 60kWh battery offering a range of 450 kilometers (WLTP) and a more powerful 220hp motor. The driving experience is characterized by natural and well-weighted controls, agile steering, and a serene and relaxing cabin atmosphere. Renault has incorporated sound-absorbing foam and thicker door linings to ensure premium levels of refinement. The car offers four levels of regenerative braking, easily adjustable from paddles behind the steering wheel. The new battery, thinner than the one used in the Zoe, is highly efficient, with an official consumption rating of just 16.1kWh per 100 kilometers. Fast AC charging at 22kW comes standard, while DC charging is available up to 130kW for the EV60 variant.

Battery Range and Charging

The Renault Megane E-Tech EV40 offers a range of 300 kilometers (WLTP) with its 40kWh battery, while the EV60 variant provides a longer range of 450 kilometers (WLTP) with its 60kWh battery. The car supports 22kW AC charging for faster AC charging capabilities and offers DC charging up to 130kW for the EV60 model.

Prices and Specifications

Although the Megane E-Tech is not a budget-friendly option, its pricing remains competitive compared to other electric hatchbacks in its class. The EV40 starts at €37,495, while the EV60 is priced from approximately €41,995.

Verdict:

The Renault Megane E-Tech is a remarkably stylish and elegant electric hatchback, boasting a sophisticated design and a high-class digital cabin. With its exceptional refinement and the advantage of 22kW AC charging, it stands out as one of the top choices in the electric hatchback market. While it may have limited rear headroom and a higher price tag, the Megane E-Tech remains a highly appealing option for those seeking a luxurious and technologically advanced electric vehicle.
