Thinking of buying a Countryman...

Hi Shane, Hope you are well. I'm thinking of buying a 161 1.6 Cooper D Countryman. Only 42,000 klms on the clock. Anything I should look out for? it's a private sale. I'm selling my 151 VW Beetle 1.2 TSI to buy this, am I crazy going from Petrol to Diesel not knowing what's ahead in terms of penaltys that might be coming down the line for diesel cars ? I'd appreciate your honest opinion. Thanks Dorothy (Ex. SBP)

Our answer:

Hi Dorothy, hope you're well.

The Countryman Cooper D is a decent crossover, though I'd be very wary of a diesel of that age with such low mileage on it. The diesel particulate filter and other engine components may be quite gummed up, which can lead to high repair bills. Also, unless you're doing high mileage yourself, you are better off sticking with petrol or thinking about hybrid.

Come back to me with your budget and rough description of how you use the car and I'll try to help you choose.
