The biggest challenge with estimating the VRT payable on a relatively rare car such as the Cayenne is guessing how much Revenue will say the car is worth in Ireland. That's called the OMSP - Open Market Selling Price - and it has no relation to the amount you actually paid for the car. 

For the purposes of our calculation, let's assume an OMSP of €50,000.

As a plug-in hybrid, the e-Hybrid's emissions should allow it into either Band 2 for 51-80g/km or Band 3 for 81-85g/km. The VRT rates for those are 9 and 9.75 per cent, respectively. 

That would mean a potential VRT bill of either €4,500 or €4,875 based on these figures. Adjust that estimate up or down based on your own thoughts on the car's value and its actual emissions rating.
