What is 'showroom condition'?

Dear sir & madam I am thinking about to buy a hybrid model, at the beginning, I am going to buy a brand new, but I find show room condition car or only half year old is not a bad deal to think about. But I have lost my mind about what's the show room conditions? Is it about 100km means showroom condition ? and about 1k km still means showroom condition or it is just a used car? What is the most important part for me to pay attention to a show room condition car and the car only half year old with few thousand KM ? Kind regards James J

Our answer:

Hi James,

Showroom condition can mean many things and it will vary from dealer to dealer. Generally speaking it's a synonym for 'very good condition' and you'll have to judge for yourself how much of that is truthful and how much is advertising flim-flam. However, a truly 'showroom condition' car can be bought if you aim to buy a car that has been pre-registered, or in other words registered by the dealer or importer simply to boost their end-of-month figures. It's a common practice, and simply by slapping a number plate on a car its value can be reduced by as much as €4-5,000, yet it will effectively be a brand new vehicle, with merely delivery miles on the clock. The best time to snap up one of these cars is in the first week of the month, just after dealers will have registered them and will be keen to get them sold off quick.
