Should I worry about my Ford's filter?

Ive bought a ford focus 1.6 diesel, zetec ,should i have concerns about the filter issues.....

Our answer:

Hi Eileen,

Only if you’re covering low mileage, or spend all of your time driving in town. A diesel exhaust particulate filter needs heat to burn off the soot that it’s capturing, and the only way to generate that heat is with regular long drives at high cruising speeds — motorway driving in other words. As long as the car gets at least one decent 45-min+ drive on the motorway, at 120km/h, per week or every couple of weeks, it should be fine.
